George Soros’ Role in Nationwide ‘No Kings’ Protests Comes Under Scrutiny

Saturday’s “No Kings” protests swept across the country, drawing crowds, media attention, and — as it now appears — significant financial backing from some familiar political sources. While the demonstrations were billed as grassroots expressions of democratic fervor, new revelations suggest a more orchestrated effort behind the scenes, with billionaire financier George Soros once again at the center.

According to Fox News, the leading organization behind the “No Kings” protests, Indivisible, co-founded by Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin, has received substantial funding from Soros’ Open Society Action Fund. In 2023, the group was awarded a $3 million grant, purportedly to “support the grantee’s social welfare activities.”

The irony is hard to ignore. Earlier this year, Indivisible was among the most vocal critics of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, pushing for him to be ousted from Democratic leadership after he declined to shut down the government. Levin accused Schumer of “doing a great deal of damage to the party” and “waving the white flag of surrender” on March 15, calling the funding bill’s passage “a travesty” and labeling what he described as an “administrative coup led by Donald Trump and Elon Musk” a constitutional crisis.

Yet, months later, Schumer is now being celebrated at the very rallies backed by Soros-linked funding — the “No Kings” protests. Few noted Soros’ financial influence when Indivisible opposed Schumer’s earlier decisions, and even fewer are connecting those same funding streams to this weekend’s demonstrations.

Indivisible, according to Fox News, is managing “data and communications with participants” for the nationwide rallies. The group’s leadership ties also further the connection between Soros and the protest movement. Co-directors Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg — a married couple — have longstanding ties to left-leaning political networks. Greenberg previously served as policy director for Tom Perriello’s campaign for Virginia governor. Perriello himself was executive director of Soros’ Open Society Foundations from October 2018 to July 2023.

The financial web extends further. In 2017, Indivisible received $350,000 from Tides Advocacy, an affiliate of the Tides Network — which has faced allegations of funding anti-Israel campus demonstrations. Altogether, records indicate Soros-linked organizations have directed more than $7.6 million toward Indivisible and affiliated groups.

The Open Society Foundations, however, maintain that their grants do not dictate specific political activities. “We support a wide range of independent organizations that work to deepen civic engagement through peaceful democratic participation,” a spokesperson told Fox News. “Our grantees make their own decisions about their work, consistent with the law and the terms of their grant agreements.”

Critics remain unconvinced. Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that there is “considerable evidence that George Soros and his network are behind funding these rallies, which may well be riots all across the country.” Cruz vowed that “the Trump administration and the Republican Congress are committed to countering this network of left-wing violence.”

Should any of the protests turn violent, Soros’ organizations could find themselves under federal scrutiny. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that President Donald Trump’s IRS is examining “criminal inquiries of left-leaning groups.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Andrew Kolvet on The Charlie Kirk Show that tracking the flow of money behind such movements is now “mission-critical.”

“We are operationalizing this here at Treasury,” Bessent said. “We are going to track down who is responsible for this.”

President Trump himself weighed in earlier this year, suggesting that Soros and his son Alex Soros should face racketeering charges under RICO statutes for allegedly supporting “violent protests.” In an August post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of violent protests and much more throughout the United States. We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more.”

As the dust settles from the “No Kings” protests, investigators and commentators alike are expected to examine the financial and organizational machinery that powered them. If the latest reports hold true, what appeared to be a spontaneous wave of civic outrage may instead prove to be another meticulously funded operation — with Soros’ influence, once again, at the center of the storm.
