Two prominent Democratic senators are under fire after an ill-conceived attempt at political humor went viral for all the wrong reasons.
As President Donald Trump moves forward with plans to add a ballroom to the White House, Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota released what they called a “live reaction” video to the ongoing demolition work at the site.
The clip, which was shared to Klobuchar’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), quickly drew backlash online — with critics branding the segment “beyond cringe.”
In the video, Warren and Klobuchar stand in front of the camera offering commentary on the construction, making jokes about Trump and the renovation plans. Viewers were left bewildered by the awkward delivery and forced humor, which many described as “painfully out of touch.”
Observers questioned the senators’ decision to film and publish the segment, calling it a glaring misstep in political communication. “For some reason, their teams thought it was a good idea to put two senior politicians in front of a camera to riff about Trump in a way that would make younger voters’ ears bleed,” one social media user remarked.
The post was intended to offer a lighthearted jab at Trump’s expansion project but instead triggered a wave of mockery across political lines. Many users suggested both senators “fire their PR teams” after what quickly became a public relations flop.
Klobuchar’s post remains online, though neither senator has publicly commented on the widespread criticism.

“It is actually a demolition zone,” Klobuchar remarked, gesturing toward the construction activity behind her.
Warren, appearing equally captivated, replied, “This is a construction zone.”
Indeed, it was — that’s typically how construction works. Yet, for two senators often insulated within Washington’s political circles, witnessing ordinary laborers engaged in routine work seemed to strike them as something of a revelation.
Throughout the clip, Warren and Klobuchar continued chatting casually, commenting that President Trump was “leveling the people’s house so that he can build a gold-encrusted ballroom.”
What followed was a stream of idle small talk, more reminiscent of a conversation between retirees at a neighborhood coffee shop than two sitting U.S. senators.
“Lots of destruction, no help for the American people,” Warren concluded, attempting to shift blame for the ongoing government shutdown away from congressional Democrats and onto President Trump.
The online reaction was swift and unsparing. One user summed up the prevailing sentiment bluntly: “You both need new social media people.” The video, they added, was “beyond cringe.”
You both need new social media people. Lmao. This is beyond cringe. Who are you actually hoping to reach? I can guarantee you’re not reaching them.

Newsmax host Carl Higbie highlighted the irony of the situation, pointing out that two politicians known for excessive government spending were now criticizing President Trump for a project financed with private funds. “From two women who have never built anything in their life, who have made a career spending your money on shrimp running on treadmills,” Higbie remarked.
From two women who have never built anything in their life, who have made a career spending your money on shrimp running on treadmills. Right😂 https://t.co/gWwCtlXmI0
