Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Announce Engagement, Three Years After GMA Scandal

Journalists Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have officially announced their engagement, sharing the news with fans on their podcast nearly three years after their widely publicized GMA3 scandal.

On the Oct. 14 episode of Amy & T.J., the couple revealed that they had been engaged for about a month. Robach, 52, told listeners, “We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged and we’ve been engaged for just about a month now.”

Holmes, 48, added, “We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to. We’ve learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship,” alluding to the media frenzy that surrounded their relationship during their time at Good Morning America 3: What You Need to Know.

Injecting humor into the announcement, Holmes joked that Robach had been “dangling a ring in everybody’s face every chance you could, and nobody said a word,” highlighting the couple’s playful dynamic amid the serious news.

Their engagement marks a new chapter for the couple, whose relationship became the center of intense public scrutiny after the 2022 scandal led to both journalists leaving GMA3.

“I was in three massive football stadiums three weekends in a row, wearing my engagement ring very proudly, very excitedly, and kept waiting for somebody to point it out or ask me, ‘Hey, what’s that?’ And it never happened,” Robach said.

“And if people saw it, maybe they were just being polite,” she added.

She also recounted attempting to post a photo on social media amid their secret engagement, but Holmes stopped her. “Babe, you see what’s very prominent in that picture and what’s in that photo?” he asked.

“So I decided not to post it because I didn’t want that to be what the photo was about,” Robach explained.

Holmes then added, “We were intimately engaged with friends, very close people, for the past three weekends. All of them are gonna think back and go, ‘Oh my god, how did we miss it?'”

The couple said they plan to share details about “how it all went down” at a later date, noting that for now they have “just been celebrating with family.”

Robach and Holmes first sparked dating rumors in November 2022. Their relationship drew widespread attention because Robach was married to actor Andrew Shue at the time, while Holmes was married to attorney Marilee Fiebig. A source told reporters, however, that there was no overlap between the anchors’ romance and their respective marriages.

After finalizing their divorces and making their relationship public, the former GMA3 co-anchors reached several milestones, including moving in together.

Robach — who was previously married to Tim McIntosh from 1996 to 2009, with whom she shares daughters Ava and Annalise — discussed her vision for her third wedding during a February 2024 episode of the Amy & T.J. podcast. She expressed a preference for something smaller and more intimate. “Justice of the peace. Vegas,” she said.

“Is there a justice of the peace in Vegas?” Holmes asked, joking, “I thought only Elvis did them … That’s where you want to have it.”

Robach continued outlining her wedding plans, telling Holmes, “I really would want it to be a very intimate gathering. And I would absolutely run off and elope somewhere.”

“I think that’s probably, if I had to pick, I’d pick eloping and going to Fiji or somewhere really nice and far away,” she added, underscoring her desire for a private and personal ceremony.
