Megyn Kelly Criticizes Karine Jean-Pierre Over Frequent References to Being ‘Black and Queer’

SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly on Thursday sharply criticized former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for repeatedly emphasizing her identity as “black and queer” in interviews and public appearances.

Jean-Pierre has highlighted her historic role as the first Black lesbian woman to serve as a White House spokesperson, a distinction she frequently references.

Speaking on Sky News Australia, Kelly questioned why Jean-Pierre continues to foreground her sexual orientation and race, suggesting that doing so is unnecessary and diminishes her professional accomplishments.

“All she is saying in these interviews is, ‘I’m black and I’m queer. I’m a black woman and queer too. Queer!’” Kelly remarked. “She keeps mentioning that. Like, what lesbian just keeps calling herself queer? It’s weird. What is that? Isn’t queer for the mildly undecided? I don’t even know what it is. It’s an unnecessary letter. LGB, we all get that. Q is different; it stands for queer and questioning, which aren’t really separate categories.”

Kelly further argued that Jean-Pierre’s focus on her identity stems from the perception that it was the key factor in her selection as press secretary. “It’s the only thing she’s got to offer for herself. It’s, of course, the reason she was offered this position,” Kelly said. “We all know that. It’s the reason Kamala Harris was offered the vice-presidential role. It’s the reason Ketanji Brown Jackson was appointed to the Supreme Court. It’s humiliating. If I were in her position, I’d be downplaying it, not broadcasting it. But she’s proud to tell everyone how black she is and how queer she is because, politically, it holds currency.”

The former press secretary recently published a book, Independent, in which she defended President Joe Biden, asserting he had not suffered cognitive decline and made all decisions independently. Jean-Pierre later clarified that the book was also meant to provide insider perspectives on former President Donald Trump’s White House.

Kelly continued her criticism by describing Jean-Pierre’s statements as naive. “She’s so dumb, it’s like when your kid comes down the stairs with a blanket over his head thinking you can’t see him,” Kelly said. “But this woman is an adult and actually too naive to realize we all know that’s a lie.”

Jean-Pierre left the Democratic Party in June, citing what she described as the party’s “betrayal” of Biden after calls from Democrats for him to withdraw from the 2024 race. Her departure followed concerns over Biden’s performance during the June 27, 2024, debate, where his raspy voice and apparent confusion sparked criticism from within his own party.

Jean-Pierre told The View that the Democratic Party had treated Biden in a “disrespectful” and “humiliating” way.
