Tim Walz Shares Major Update Following Call with President Trump
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz praised former President Donald Trump on Thursday for reaching out personally to offer support in the aftermath of a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis that left two children dead and 17 others injured.
In a statement shared after the call, Walz expressed gratitude for the president’s outreach and emphasized the need for national unity in responding to gun violence. “President Trump offered his full support to the people of Minnesota during this incredibly painful time,” Walz said. “I appreciate his willingness to reach across political lines in the face of tragedy.”
Walz also extended his deepest condolences to the families affected by the shooting and commended first responders for their swift action, which he said prevented even greater loss of life. “Our first responders and medical personnel showed extraordinary courage under unthinkable circumstances,” the governor said. “Their quick response saved lives and brought some measure of calm amid chaos.”
Calling for a renewed commitment to addressing gun violence, Walz urged both parties to move beyond partisan divides. “We cannot allow tragedies like this to become routine,” he said. “Now is the time for action — to strengthen school safety, expand access to mental health resources, and ensure our children can learn without fear.”
